Head coach of the Australian cricket team Justin Langer addressed the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, December 15. In the conference, he said that Cameron Green will make his Test debut in Adelaide if he passes the routine fitness test before the game. Green was hit on the head by a shot from Jasprit Bumrah, after which he had to leave the field. He was assessed by the medical team after the game. He will be undergoing a fitness test before the match, which will decide the fate of his test debut.

Speaking to the media, Langer said that if Green clears the fitness test he will surely play the first test.

Cameron Green Will Play First Test If Declared Fit: Ricky Ponting

“If he’s passed fit he’ll definitely play. We’re just going through the concussion protocols. It was a very unusual incident that happened with him. I saw him last night, he had a big smile on his face, he had another test this morning that we got good news on him. He’s earned the right for selection. If he’s fit and available, he’ll make his Test debut” Langer said.

Green is in Adelaide with the rest of his teammates. He is a part of a long list of injured players. His recovery will come as a relief for the side who have been marred by injuries. David Warner has been ruled out of the first test after coping up with a groin injury. Will Pucovski was also ruled out after suffering a concussion in the first practice match.

Meanwhile, Marcus Harris and Moises Henriques have been added into the Australian squad for the first test. Mitchell Starc has also re-joined the Australia camp having left the Australian white-ball squad after the first of the three T20Is against the tourists on compassionate grounds after learning of a family illness.

“We’ve got to wait and see what happens with Cameron Green first so that’s one part of the jigsaw puzzle. We’ll look at Joe and Marcus (Harris) today to see how they are tracking at training. We’ve got to pick our six best (players at the top) and that’s all part of the jigsaw puzzle. There’s a lot of balls in the air, I wish we could be more definite, not only for you guys but more importantly for our players but until we get a few things ticked off we can’t make a decision” Langer concluded saying.
