Chad Bowes Sets A Record For The Fastest Double Century In List A Cricket During The 2024-25 Ford Trophy Match

Canterbury and New Zealand batsman Chad Bowes has rewritten the record books by scoring the fastest double century in List A history. In the Ford Trophy match against Otago on October 23, the 32-year-old reached the milestone in just 103 balls.

Previously, the record was held by India’s Narayan Jagadeesan and Australia’s Travis Head, who both achieved it in 114 balls, but Bowes surpassed that mark comfortably.

In his 100th List A match, he also scored the season’s first century, completing it in 53 balls, ranking among the top five fastest centuries in Ford Trophy history. Ross Taylor holds the record for the fastest century, having done so in 49 balls.

Bowes hit 27 fours and seven sixes during his impressive innings of 205. He was eventually dismissed by Matthew Bacon, who bowled him LBW in the 39th over. Canterbury finished with a strong total of 343/9 in 50 overs.

After scoring 48 in his first game, Bowes has now accumulated 253 runs, making him the tournament’s leading scorer. He made his New Zealand debut in March 2023 and has played in six ODIs and 11 T20Is so far.

However, his performances have been less than stellar, totalling only 105 runs. The 32-year-old has also been left out of the squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.

Otago collapsed following Chad Bowes’ explosive double-century

In contrast, Otago fell well short of the 343-run target, managing just 103 runs in 24.5 overs. Luke Georgeson was the top scorer with 34 runs, being the only player to surpass 30, as the team ended up 240 runs behind.

Sean Harvey and Michael Rippon each took three wickets, while Zakary Foulkes claimed two. Michael Ray and Cole McConchie both added one wicket. Canterbury has won both of their matches so far and sits at the top of the points table.
