Dinesh Chandimal has been appointed as the skipper for the ODI series against England. The move came after the team”s poor run in Asia cup as the team failed to make it to the super four stage.
The captaincy has become a musical chair for Sri Lankan cricket as the side saw close to five skipper”s after their dismal performance against Zimbabwe.
Kapugadera, Thisara Perera, Chandimal and Upul Tharanga led the team in limited overs after Mathews resignation. However, owing to bring a change in the side, the board appointed Mathews once again in the month of January.
Mathews speaks
An emotional Mathews mentioned that he is ready to quit limited overs as a player if his addition is being a burden to the side. While he outlined his achievements as a skipper, he also pointed out that he has been made the scapegoat for the early exit in the Asia cup.
The board sacked him as the skipper with immediate effect as Chandimal will now lead all three formats of the game in the England series.
Sri Lankan fans will be hoping for a change in fortunes in the home series starting October 10 and it”s up to the team to bring back smiles on their faces.
