Since the IPL started back in 2008 and since India’s second World Cup win 2011, the BCCI has been regarded as one of the most powerful cricket boards among all the cricket playing nations, Their power is on par with the likes of Cricket Australia, England & Wales Cricket Board and together they form the Big 3. Despite COVID-19 preventing crowds from going into the stadiums, the BCCI hosted a successful event under the administration of Sourav Ganguly.

As per reports in IANS, the BCCI has made a net profit of Rs 14,489.80 crore at the end of the financial year 2018-19, having added Rs 2,597.19 crore to its financial might. The BCCI earned more than half of 4,017.11 crores during the 2018 IPL. Meanwhile, s 2,407.46 — as per the balance sheet that is still not in the public domain while the accounts of 2019-20 are still not ready.

Details of BCCI’s Profits

The BCCI’s net worth was Rs 5,438.61 crore at the end of FY 2014-15, and at the close of 2015-16, the financial year during which it earned a massive Rs 2,408.46 crore, its net worth rose to Rs 7,847.07 crore. Then, the board breached the Rs 8,000-crore mark in 2016-17, taking its net worth to Rs 8,431.86 crore.

And in 2017-18, the board added a colossal Rs 3,460.75 crore in just one year to take its worth to Rs 11,892.61 crore. And, now, after the finalisation of the 2018-19 balance sheet, the worth has shot up to Rs 14,889.80 crore.

“As per the Societies Act, under which the BCCI is registered, it should submit its balance sheet within six months of the end of each financial year, besides sharing it with its members (state associations), and the International Cricket Council. Without submitting its balance sheet with the ICC, the BCCI will not get its share of distributions from the world body,” a source told IANS.

Apart from its main heads the other components of BCCI’s revenue areas including its bank balance, fixed deposits, and fixed assets, etc. Broadcasting has been another major area of revenue for the BCCI.

The broadcast rights holder, STAR India, pays Rs 43.20 crore per international match played in India. During FY 2018-19, the BCCI hosted 22 international matches — seven Tests, 10 ODIs, and five T20s — which makes it Rs 950.40 crore.

Meanwhile, Star will be broadcasting IPL matches till 2022 having won a historic bid of Rs 16,347.50 in 2018, which translates to 54.50 crores per match.

The Sourav Ganguly-led panel has a total of seven sponsors — STAR Sports (broadcaster), Byju’s (team sponsor), PayTm (title sponsor), Dream11, Hyundai, and Ambuja Cement (partners), and kit sponsor (MPL Sports).
