Chennai Super Kings have been going through a lot of ruckuses ever since they landed in the UAE. 13 members of the franchise including two cricketers tested COVID-19 positive before Suresh Raina pulled out. And now, reports have emerged that veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh might skipper the tournament as well.
Incidentally, Harbhajan had skipped the training camp in Chennai and also didn’t fly with the team on August 21. The Super Kings had organised a camp at MA Chidambaram Stadium from August 16 for the Indian cricketers.
Will Harbhajan Singh play IPL 2020?
However, Harbhajan Singh along with some other cricketers didn’t attend the camp. While others joined in time to fly with the rest of the squad, the off-spinner didn’t. He chose to stay with his family as his mother was facing some health issues.
Recently, reports emerged that Harbhajan Singh will skip IPL 2020 in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the squad. However, Chennai has dismissed all such claims saying that these are speculations. However, they couldn’t give any possible date of his arrival.
“He was to join the team on 1st September but he has again deferred his arrival. We don’t know when he’s coming or whether he’s coming at all as he has not updated us (management) on his decision. Him pulling out of IPL is all speculation at the moment,” the official told Times Now.
With Suresh Raina already out, it will be a massive blow to the three-time champions if Harbhajan pulls out the cash-rich league. Harbhajan Singh boasts a decent record in IPL with 150 wickets at an average of 26.44, with the best bowling figures of five for 18.
Speaking about the camp, Chennai Super Kings finally got some respite after a difficult couple of days. All the other members of the squad have tested COVID-19 negative and if the results turn negative once again on September 4; they can resume training. MS Dhoni-led Chennai are the only squad to begin their training for IPL 2020.
