Chennai Super Kings To Leave For UAE On August 21 For IPL 2020

Chennai Super Kings are all set to depart for United Arab Emirates (UAE) on August 22 for IPL 2020. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the news while speaking with ANI. Meanwhile, the MS Dhoni-led side before travelling to UAE will start practising in Chennai starting on August 16.

All major players of CSK including MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina will be part of the training camp at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai. Incidentally, the Super Kings were the first team to begin training in March as well.

The three-time IPL champions have been one of the most consistent sides in league history. CSK will be looking to quickly acclimatise to the conditions and find the right combinations for the surfaces in the UAE.

Viswanath also asserted that the franchise is preparing to take 8-10 net bowlers along with them but nothing has been finalised yet.

“The team will start practising at Chepauk mostly by August 16. Dhoni and Raina along with other team members, would arrive by August 14-15 and we should leave for UAE around August 21”, said Kasi Viswanathan to ANI.

Moreover, Kasi Viswanath also added that Dubai will be the base camp for the franchise. The 13th edition of the IPL will take place between September 19- November 10. Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai will host all the matches of IPL 2020. 

Earlier this week, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed that the Indian government has given green signal to conduct the IPL in UAE this year. All night matches of IPL 2020 will begin on 7:30 IST, whereas the day matches will start at 3:30 IST.

All franchises will be departing for UAE later this month and will stay in a bio-secure bubble throughout the tournament. This year the IPL was originally scheduled to begin from March 29, however, it was postponed to the COVID-19 pandemic.
