Kings XI Punjab star batsman Chris Gayle is yet to make an appearance in IPL 2020. He was likely to feature against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium; however, he was ruled out due to sickness, confirmed head coach Anil Kumble.

With Mayank Agarwal and skipper KL Rahul playing top-class cricket, Chris Gayle had to warm the benches.  However, the failure in the middle-order prompted Punjab to tinker with their playing XI. As a result, they were planning to bring in Gayle at the top and push Mayank at No.3 to strengthen their batting leading to the game against Hyderabad.

However, the Universe Boss had to sit out again due to sickness. He caught up some fever and food poisoning and couldn’t make it to the playing XI. Head coach Anil Kumble confirmed the development during a chat in between the overs.

“Chris Gayle was about to play tonight but he’s down from few days due to food poison,” said Anil Kumble.

Meanwhile, Chris Gayle will hope to recover soon and return to action as King XI Punjab look forward to the highest scorer in T20 cricket to revive their form in IPL 2020. Reportedly, he will be one of the many cricketers who will be available for mid-season transfer.

Incidentally, any cricketer who has played less than two matches will be available for mid-season transfer, which will take place after all teams have played their seven games each.

Speaking about the game, Kings XI Punjab are yet to find their feet against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow ran a carnage hitting everything at their disposal. The opening duo brought their fifth 100+ stands in IPL within 10 overs.
