Kings XI Punjab star batsman Chris Gayle had a bittersweet against Rajasthan Royals at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Despite his outstanding knock of 99 runs, Punjab failed to secure a much-needed win. On top of that, Gayle was fined for his behaviour after getting out in the 20th over.

Meanwhile, it was a full delivery which was angling in. Chris Gayle missed the flick and the ball hit off the pad and into the off stump. Angered after missing a well-deserved century, Gayle flung his bat and lost grip and it flew towards short mid-wicket.

Chris Gayle fined for violating Code of Conduct

As a result, Chris Gayle violated IPL’s Code of Conduct and was fined 10 percent of his match fees. He admitted to his offence in front of the match referee, IPL stated in a release.

“Gayle admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” the IPL release stated. “For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chris Gayle’s fined and a late plunge by Nicholas Pooran guided Punjab to 184 runs which was not enough for them to seal a win. Ben Stokes launched a carnage in the powerplay overs to set the platform before Sanju Samson, Steve Smith, and Jos Buttler batted sensibly to take them home.

With the loss, Kings XI Punjab now need to win their final game against Chennai Super Kings to keep their hopes of qualifying alive. They can, however, still go through even after a defeat if other results go their way. Royals moved to the fifth spot in the table after the win and will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their final game on November 1. Both Royals and Knight Riders need a win to have any hopes of sneaking into the playoffs.
