If I Consistently Do Well Opportunities Will Come- Karun Nair On Playing For Indian Again

IPL 2020 Karun Nair

Karun Nair

Karun Nair set the world on fire after he became only the second India to score a triple ton in Tests. In 2017, against England Nair scored an unforgettable 303* as India whitewashed England 5-0. Unfortunately following that he was unable to score even a single fifty and was stopped from the team.

Since then Nair has never got another chance to represent India in international cricket. However, the batsman from Karnataka has been a regular feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This year Nair will be once again playing for the Kings XI Punjab in UAE.

Recently ahead of IPL 2020, Nair asserted that he is keen to perform well in the upcoming big season.

“Very motivated, It’s again a new season so I’m glad that all of us are getting an opportunity to play first of all. We need to thank BCCI and the governments who have been working hard to make this happen. Also, very happy to meet all the boys after so long and then having this opportunity to come here in UAE and play. Really excited to get started and hopefully I’m able to win some games for the team,” Nair told Hindustan Times.

Karun Nair has so far played 69 IPL matches in his career in which he has scored 1464 runs at a strike rate of 128.5. Furthermore, the 28-year-old is also looking forward to once again play under the coaching of Anil Kumble who was also his India coach back in 2017.

“Really happy to have Kumble around. He was the coach when I was given my India debut. I was able to do well also when he was the coach. So only positive feelings to talk about. It’s a new year and new season so it’s important for us to prepare well because all of us haven’t played in so long and then hit the ground running straight away”, Nair added.

Meanwhile, Karun Nair still has ambitions of playing for team India again. The right-handed batsman is completely focused on the IPL and wants to win matches for the Kings XI Punjab. Nair believes that if he consistently performs in the upcoming IPL, opportunities to play for India will come his way.

“IPL is such a big platform for every single player that comes from India,” he said. “Whatever opportunities I can get, I’ll be looking to do as well as I can to help Kings XI win games. If I can consistently do well then opportunities will come. Just looking at it one game and one opportunity at a time,” Nair said.
