In a bizarre incident at the Wankhede Stadium, Chennai Super Kings opener Devon Conway was unable to review the umpire’s decision as the Decision Review System wasn’t available. He had to walk back to the pavilion for a duck.

The Chennai Super Kings were asked to bat first by the Mumbai Indians. Openers Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad walked out to open the innings, while Daniel Sams began the proceedings with the ball. On the second delivery of the over, Dams bowled a length delivery which shaped back in to beat Conway’s bat.

The left-hander was struck on the bats, and the umpire gave it out. However, the replays clearly showed that the ball was sliding down the leg slide. As the DRS wasn’t available due to a powercut at the Wankhede Stadium, Conway had to go back to the hut.

In the third over, Robin Uthappa too wanted to opt for the DRS. However, the system was still not available. He was given lbw off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling. The pacer bowled and away seamer around the off-stump, which shaped back to hit Uthappa on his pads. The replays suggested that the ball would have hit the off-stump.

Let’s take a look at how the fans reacted to the DRS fiasco at the Wankhede:

Chennai Super Kings in deep trouble at the Wankhede against Mumbai Indians

Soon after Devon Conway’s wicket, all-rounder Moeen Ali also followed the opener back in the hut. He was also dismissed for a duck by Daniel Sams. Moeen played a half-hearted shot and gave a catch to Hritik Shokeen at mid-wicket.

Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings are in deep trouble having lost four wickets for 17 runs in 4.1 overs. Both the openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway along with Moeen and Uthappa are back in the hut. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has joined Ambati Rayudu at the crease.
