CPL 2023: [WATCH] Junior Sinclair Showcased Brilliant Fielding Skills To Run Out Martin Guptill

Junior Sinclair’s athleticism came to the fore once again as he ran out Trinbago Knight Riders’ batter Martin Guptill with a stunning display of fielding brilliance during the match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in CPL 2023.

Sinclair, known for his acrobatic fielding, demonstrated his skills by running in from mid-wicket, grabbing the ball, and executing a diving throw to hit the single stump he had to target. This play mirrored his earlier game-changing fielding effort against the Barbados Royals when he ran out skipper Rovman Powell with similar agility.

Sinclair’s outstanding efforts left even one of the most agile runners, Guptill, unable to reach his crease in time.

Here is the video of Junior Sinclair’s gymnastic fielding display resulting in the runout:

Sinclair has performed well as a bowler in the four games, taking three wickets with an average of 13.66. On the other hand, the New Zealand batsman concluded the league stage with 262 runs in 10 games, maintaining an impressive average of 32.75, including a century and a half-century. Unfortunately, Martin Guptill suffered an injury during the match, raising concerns about his participation in the CPL Playoffs.

“I am not too sure about Guptill” – Kieron Pollard

TKR captain Kieron Pollard voiced his worries about Martin Guptill’s injury when he was running in their batting innings. Both TKR and GAW have secured playoff spots and the top two positions, leading to the rest of several regular players for this match.

Despite setting a solid target of 176/8 in 20 overs, TKR couldn’t defend it as GAW successfully chased it down in just 18.2 overs. During the post-match presentation, Kieron Pollard remarked:

“I think we got what we wanted from this. Keacy played well. Was about giving opportunities. We got what we wanted from a batting perspective. In hindsight, we got only 12 runs from the last two overs. Keacy coming in and exploding at the end was remarkable. I am not too sure about Guptill.”

The 36-year-old focused on the upcoming Qualifier One against the same opponent scheduled for Wednesday, September 20.

“We will look forward to have a good encounter on Tuesday. We were decent. Hinds executed decently well. Hosein executed well as well. Was a very good game of cricket for us barring the fielding. May the best team win on Wednesday,” Pollard added.

While TKR aims for their fifth CPL title, GAW, despite their consistency, has yet to win the championship. GAW has secured the leading position in the points table with seven victories in nine matches, and they will face the Barbados Royals in their last game today. Meanwhile, TKR concluded their round-robin fixtures in second place, with six triumphs and three defeats.
