The BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has said that their counterparts Cricket Australia have ensured that they will take strict action and will stay committed to the investigation of the racial abuse row on Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. Both the players were at the receiving end of racial abuse from a section of Australian fans at the SCG. The Indian players reported the incident after the day’s play on day 3 as per a BCCI official. By then the accused had left the stadium. The Indian management lodged an official complaint of the incident.

Meanwhile, Jay Shah has tweeted saying there is no place for racism in the game of cricket and that Cricket Australia have promised their full cooperation over the entire matter. 

“I’ve spoken to @CricketAus and they have ensured strict action against the offenders. @BCCI and Cricket Australia stand together. These acts of discrimination will not be tolerated,” he tweeted, tagging BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.

Mohammed Siraj Hurled Abuses On Day 4 As Well

Mohammed Siraj was hurled abuses just before the tea break on day 4 for the second time as the game was halted for 10 to 12 minutes. Siraj complained of racial attack from a section of the crowd, leading to the expulsion of some spectators from the stadium. Cricket Australia have already aplogised for the incident to the BCCI. 

“As series hosts, we unreservedly apologise to our friends in the Indian cricket team and assure them we will prosecute the matter to its fullest extent,” said Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity and Security, in a press release.

“Once those responsible are identified, CA will take the strongest measures possible under our Anti-Harassment Code, including lengthy bans, further sanctions and referral to NSW (New South Wales) Police,” he added.

In Dubai, the ICC also issued a statement, condemning the turn of events and seeking an action taken report from CA.
