West Indies vs Australia

West Indies vs Australia

Due to Covid-19 West Indies have decided to deduct one match from the 5 match T20I series against Pakistan. Also, the matches are scheduled to begin on 28 July which is one day later than the original schedule.

According to the latest schedule, the first T20I match of series between Pakistan and West Indies will begin on 28 July at Bridgetown. The 2nd match will also be played in Bridgetown. However, the 3rd and 4th T20 international games will take place at Providence. After the T20 International ends the teams are scheduled to face off in a two-match Test series.

The first Test will be played on August 12 at Kingston. Meanwhile, the second Test will start on August 20 at the same venue of Kingston. The reason behind all this change is the COVID-19 positive case in the West Indies camp. Two days ago one of the nonplaying members of the team West Indies was tested positive for COVID-19.

However, after the news came out the second ODI between the teams was stopped just after the toss. Also, The cricketers and support staff were instantly sent for self-isolation.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) released a statement on Saturday which stated:

“All 152 persons tested for Covid-19 returned negative results, following the suspension of the second CG Insurance One-Day International (ODI) before a ball was bowled at Kensington Oval, Barbados.“All members of the West Indies and Australia teams and coaching staff, as well as match officials, event staff, and TV production crew were tested back at the hotel with everyone being in room isolation since.”

Cricket West Indies and Pakistan Cricket Board jointly agreed to cancel 1st T20I match

Due to the rescheduling of the second ODI against Australia, CWI has to manage the schedule. So CWI decided to remove one match from the Pakistan series. Both Pakistan Cricket Board and Cricket West Indies mutually decided to remove one match from the T20I series.

Ricky Skerritt, the Cricket West Indies president, said: “Together with the PCB, CWI has examined various scenarios, and we jointly agreed that the best solution in the present circumstances is to cancel the first T20I and play a four-match T20I series starting on Wednesday and keep the rest of the tour schedule unchanged.”
