CSK Captain Hits A Quickfire Century Against Services In The 2024 Vijay Hazare Trophy

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad impressed for Maharashtra in the 2024 Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring an unbeaten century against Services on December 23 at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai.

After winning the toss and opting to field, Maharashtra saw Services lose an early wicket, with opener Ravi Chauhan dismissed for eight. Captain Mohit Ahlawat top-scored for Services with 61 off 64 balls, but they were bowled out for 204 in 48 overs.

In reply, Ruturaj Gaikwad took full control of the chase, aggressively attacking the bowlers and reaching his century in a remarkable 57 balls. He continued his onslaught, finishing the innings unbeaten on a blistering 148 off 74 balls. His innings included 16 boundaries and 11 sixes, showcasing his exceptional power-hitting and dominance at the crease.

Maharashtra emerged victorious by nine wickets, easily chasing down the target in just 20.2 overs to claim their second consecutive win in the tournament.

In their opening match of the tournament, Gaikwad’s team secured a thrilling three-wicket win over Rajasthan. Set to chase 216, Ankit Bawne played a crucial role, remaining unbeaten on 74 off 95 balls, including 10 boundaries, and guiding his team across the line to victory.

The Maharashtra cricketer made his India debut in 2021 during a T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Since then, the opening batter has played 23 T20Is, amassing 633 runs at an average of 39.56, with four fifties and one century.

Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his first century against Australia in 2023 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, remaining not out on 123 from 57 balls, which included 13 boundaries and seven sixes.

Despite his outstanding performance, India lost the match as Australia chased down the target on the final ball, winning by five wickets. The 27-year-old has also featured in six ODIs, scoring 115 runs, including one fifty.
