The CEO of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kasi Viswanathan, has expressed uncertainty about MS Dhoni’s future with the team. Regarding the new retention rules, Viswanathan disclosed that CSK is unsure whether to use Dhoni’s option.

Uncertainty has been created by the BCCI and IPL governing council’s adoption of retention for uncapped players. Viswanathan said that since Dhoni returned from the United States, CSK has not yet talked about his future. Fans are excited to hear about Dhoni’s possible comeback, and talks are anticipated to happen shortly.

The franchises’ October 31 deadline for submitting their retention lists makes CSK’s decision even more urgent. This is an important call because of Dhoni’s legendary stature and his contributions to CSK’s triumph. The legend’s IPL future will be decided in large part by the talks that take place next week.

Because of Viswanathan’s circumspect stance, rumors have been spread, and Dhoni’s supporters are eagerly awaiting word. CSK’s choice will have a big impact on the team and the IPL landscape as the deadline approaches.

We might not even use it for MS Dhoni, said CSK CEO

In an interview prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan expressed the team’s desire to keep MS Dhoni uncapped. According to information obtained, CSK is still undecided about using the recently adopted by the IPL governing council and BCCI.

“We are not sure at this stage. We might not even use it for MS Dhoni. It’s still too early to comment on this because we haven’t had discussions with him,” Kasi Viswanathan told TOI.

“We are hopeful of him playing, but it’s a call Dhoni will himself make. Dhoni was in the US and we haven’t had discussions yet. Now I am travelling this week, so there is a possibility of some discussions in the coming week. So there could be some clarity then.” CSK CEO added.

In the approaching season, the Indian Premier League Governing Council has reintroduced the rule concerning uncapped players. The governing council stated on Saturday, October 28, that they would reintroduce the uncapped players rule – which they had phased out in 2021, during the announcement of player rules for the next IPL 2025.
