CSK Issue Official Statement With Proof On Dewald Brevis Controversy

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have issued a clarification stating that their acquisition of South African batter Dewald Brevis for the IPL 2025 season was carried out in full compliance with the league’s player regulations. The franchise emphasized that there was no irregularity in the signing process.

By releasing this statement, CSK aimed to put an end to the ongoing debate surrounding their deal with Brevis. The clarification comes shortly after veteran off-spinner R. Ashwin suggested that the franchise may have offered the youngster additional payment for his services during the season.

In their official release published on Saturday (August 16), CSK mentioned:

“Chennai Super Kings categorically clarifies that all actions taken by the franchise during the signing process of Dewald Brevis as a Replacement Player during TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 were in complete compliance with the rules and regulations of IPL.”

The Chennai franchise also specified that the signing was carried out under Clause 6.6 relating to ‘Replacement Players,’ as outlined in the IPL Player Regulations. Here’s what they stated:

“CSK Ready To Pay Extra” – R Ashwin On Brevis Signing

R. Ashwin recently sparked debate by questioning if CSK had offered Dewald Brevis additional money to secure his services midway through the IPL 2025 season. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said:

“Is he the next AB or the first DB? Brevis had a great time with CSK last year. I came to understand two or three other teams also spoke with him, but they missed picking because of having to pay extra money.”

“While picking up a player mid-season, there will be discussions with the player’s agent to negotiate on an ‘X’ amount apart from the base price to acquire his services. CSK were willing to pay the extra money due to which he (Brevis) came into the franchise.”
