India defeated the arch rival Pakistan and registered a comfortable win at Edgbaston on 4th June. India bowled out Pakistan for 164 runs inside 34 overs. The match was however interrupted by rain several times and the overs were reduced to 48 per sides.
With their top 4 batsmen accelerating, India managed to get 319 runs on board in their 48 overs. Due to rain the match was again reduced to 41 overs in the second innings, to which India easily dismissed pakistan’s playing 11 for 164 runs.

- Vintage Yuvi
Indian team witnessed the vintage and destructible Yuvraj Singh after a long span of time. Yuvraj Singh smashed a brilliant 53 off just 32 balls which included 8 fours and 1 six. The left handed batsman was dropped by Hasan Ali on 9 runs. Yuvraj Singh reached his half century in just 29 balls which is the fastest half ton by an Indian in ICC Champions Trophy. Yuvraj Singh’s 50 helped India to take off their total above 300. Indian Team will be delighted to see the Vintage Yuvraj Singh back in action who has played a vital role in most of the ICC tournaments.
- Opening dual and Captain’s knock
Batting first, Indian openers struggled hard to open their arms in the initial overs of the game, with Mohammad Amir starting off well with intent. After the 10th over India had scored 46 runs without a loss. This helped India to take on the momentum and overpower pakistan’s bowlers. Wahab Riaz failed to get his length right and leaked 15 runs in his 3rd However, Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed in the 25th over for 68 runs.
The opening partnership of 136 runs played a very crucial role in keeping the pressure on Pakistan. Rohit Sharma missed his century by 9 runs and got run out for 91 by Mohammad Azam. Rohit- Dhawan partnership played a key role in India’s 2013 Champions Trophy triumph. After a not so impressing IPL, Virat Kohli came forward and smashed an unbeaten 81 runs.
- Pakistan’s poor fielding
Pakistan team failed in all the departments and especially in fielding in the on-sided game against India. The dropped catches and missed run outs costed the match to the Pakistan team. Yuvraj Singh was dropped at 9 which he later on went to score 53 runs of just 32 balls. Indian skipper, Virat Kohli was dropped a couple of times, which resulted in Pakistan dropping the match.
- Hardik Pandya show
Hardik Pandya showed why he was sent ahead of MS Dhoni in the match against Pakistan. Hardik pandya amazed the viewers by smashing 3 consecutive sixes in the last over of the game. Hardik scored 18 runs in just 5 deliveries. Besides, Pandya took 2 wickets in his 8 overs which resulted in his all round contribution to the team.
- Ravindra Jadeja’s excellent throw
Ravindra jadeja dismissed Shoaib Malik with a brilliant throw which resulted in him getting run out for 15 runs. Ravindra Jadeja’s outstanding throw at short third man region proved his fitness. Along with Hardik Pandya, Jadeja too took 2 wickets in his 8 overs of the game.
