India took on Pakistan in the second quarterfinals of World Cup 1996 played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on 9th March. Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a brilliant batting effort by the Indian batting line up. Navjot Singh Sidhu 93, Sachin Tendulkar 31, Mohammad Azharuddin 27, Sanjay Manjerkar 20, Vinod Kambli 24 and quick fire 45 off 25 balls helped India post 287 for 8 in 50 overs.
Defending the target of 288 runs to win in 49 overs, Pakistani openers Saeed Anwar and Aamer Sohail added 84 runs for opening wicket. The Indian bowlers performed well, kept picking wickets at regular intervals and restricted Pakistan to 248 for 9. For India, Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble took 3 wickets each. Pakistani captain Aamer Sohail was the top scorer with 55. India won the match by 39 runs.
3. India versus Pakistan, Super Six Stage, 1999
India and Pakistan played in the Super Six stage of the 1999 World Cup played at Old Trafford, Manchester on 8th June. Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin won the toss and decided to bat first. Sachin Tendulkar 45, Rahul Dravid 61, Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin 59 helped India post 227 for 6 in 50 overs.

4. India versus Pakistan, Group Stage, 2003
India and Pakistan faced in a Group A match played at Super Sports Park, Centurion on 1st March 2003. Pakistani captain Waqar Younis won the toss and elected to bat first. A brilliant 101 by Saeed Anwar, Younis Khan 32, Mohammad Yusuf 25, Rashid Latif 29* helped Pakistan to post 273 for 7 in 50 overs. For India, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra took 2 wickets each, while Dinesh Mongia and Srinath took 1 wicket each.
Chasing the target of 274 runs to win, the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag added 53 runs for opening wicket in quick time. Mohammad Kaif and Tendulkar created pressure on Pakistani bowlers adding 102 runs for the 3rd wicket. Sachin played a brilliant knock scoring 98 off 75 balls. Yuvraj Singh and Rahul Dravid put on 99 unbeaten runs for the 5th wicket. India won the match by 6 wickets with 26 balls to spare.
5. India versus Pakistan, Semi-final, 2011
India took on Pakistan in the semi-finals of 2011 World Cup played at PCA Stadium, Mohali on 30th March. Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first. Sachin Tendulkar was the top scorer with 85, Virender Sehwag 38, Suresh Raina 36 not out off 39 balls helped India post 260 for 9 in 50 overs. For Pakistan, Wahab Riaz was the pick of bowlers with 5 for 46.
Defending the target of 261 runs to win, Hafeez and Kamran Akmal got off to a decent start adding 44 runs. Indian bowlers were outstanding in keeping wickets at regular intervals. 6. India versus Pakistan, Group Stage, 2015
In the last edition of World Cup in 2015, India took on Pakistan in Group B match played at Adelaide Oval on 15th February. Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first.
Rohit Sharma was dismissed cheaply for 15 runs. Shikhar Dhawan 73, Virat Kohli 107, Suresh Raina 74 off 56 balls helped India post a massive total of 300 for 7 in 50 overs. Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli added 129 runs for the 2nd wicket. Then Kohli and Suresh Raina put on 110 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Defending the target of 301, it was a superb bowling effort by the Indian bowlers. Mohammed Shami 4 for 35, Mohit Sharma 2 for 35, Umesh Yadav 2 for 50, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja 1 wicket each helped India bowl out Pakistan for 224 in 47. India won the match by 76 runs. It was India’s sixth successive win over Pakistan in World Cups.
