Johnny Grave’s Tenure as CEO

Johnny Grave became CEO of Cricket West Indies in February 2017, and his nearly eight-year tenure saw several significant milestones. Under his leadership, the region hosted three major World Cup events, including the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup, the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, and the upcoming 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, which is co-hosted with the USA. His tenure also included the organization of the T20 World Cup in June 2023.

Effective October 1, 2024, Lynford Inverary will take on the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Cricket West Indies. This position carries significant responsibilities, including overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization, improving governance, and ensuring that CWI runs efficiently.

From November 1, Inverary will also assume the role of Acting CEO, replacing Johnny Grave. His role will be pivotal in steering the organization through a period of transition. One of his main objectives will be implementing the CWI’s strategic plan for 2024-27, titled “The Long Run.”

Lynford Inverary is known for his strategic and pragmatic approach to leadership. He has a clear vision for the future of West Indies cricket, with a focus on improving operational efficiency, enhancing player development, and ensuring that the organization remains competitive both on and off the field.

“I am honoured and grateful to the CWI Board of Directors for their vote of confidence in my ability to lead,” Inverary said. “I embrace this new challenge as a platform to continue contributing to the development of the sport that means so much to me and the people of the West Indies.
“I look forward to working with the board, management, and staff to implement our four-year strategic plan, improve operational efficiency, and shape a strong future for West Indies cricket

Reaction to Inverary’s appointment

CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow praised Inverary’s appointment, highlighting his deep institutional knowledge and leadership skills. Inverary himself expressed gratitude for the board’s vote of confidence and reiterated his commitment to shaping a bright future for West Indies cricket.

“Lynford brings a wealth of institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of CWI’s strategic goals, paired with an operational capacity to execute with precision,” CWI president Dr Kishore Shallow said.
“Over his decade-long tenure, he has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, guiding critical projects to successful completion while steering key initiatives with purpose and vision. His unyielding commitment and expertise leave us confident in his ability to lead CWI through this pivotal phase of growth and transformation.”

Looking ahead, CWI has several major events planned, including the co-hosting of the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup with the USA. There is also a focus on developing youth and women’s cricket, ensuring that future generations continue to bring pride to the Caribbean.
