David Miller Finishes Things In Style For The Paarl Royals In The SA20 League

David Miller

David Miller On Tuesday, January 24, Paarl Royals defeated Sunrisers Eastern Cape by five wickets at St George’s Park in Gqeberha in the 21st match of the SA20 2023. Sunrisers were in high spirits prior to the match, having defeated Durban’s Super Giants by a massive margin of 124 runs in their previous game.

They were looking forward to putting their best foot forward against the Royals, hoping to capitalise on their winning momentum, which did not materialise.

However, the game’s entire script changed when Sunrisers’ Sisanda Magala came in to bowl the 18th over to Royals skipper David Miller. Miller went completely hammer and tongs on the over, dumping Magala all over the park for a whopping 25 runs, smashing three sixes and a single four (hit by Dane Vilas). The Royals eventually took only 18.5 overs to reach the target.

The masterclass of David Miller:

Paarl Royals, on the other hand, came into the game having won by six wickets against Pretoria Capitals. They hoped to build on their previous success and win back-to-back games. The last time Paarl Royals played the Sunrisers, they were defeated.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape batted first after winning the toss and managed only 130/7 in their 20 overs. JJ Smuts led the way with a quickfire 65 off 49 deliveries, while Roelof van der Merwe was their best bowler, taking two wickets for 11 runs in four overs.

The chase was a roller-coaster ride for the Paarl Royals. For the most part, it appeared that the Sunrisers would easily defend their total, but that was not the case. Jos Buttler struck a well-made half-century and finished as the Royals’ leading scorer.
