Australian opener David Warner who is missing the first test in Adelaide vs India with a groin injury is aiming to return in the boxing day test in Melbourne. Warner injured his groin in the second ODI against India and since then has been undergoing treatment and recovery. Warner had limped out of Australia’s second one-day international against the tourists last month in agony after straining his groin. He further said that feels devastated to miss out the Pink-Ball test in Adelaide.

Speaking to Sony Sports Network, Warner said that he is aiming to return in the Boxing-Day Test in Melbourne.

“I am (hopeful), that’s one that I never want to miss out on.“(Adelaide’s) my first missed Test through injury so I’m obviously very disappointed with that. With the big series that it is, it’s devastating to miss a Test but I know that the guys who are walking out there are going to put their best foot forward” said Warner.

David Warner Focusing Hard on Rehabilitation

With just nine days to go for the second test match in Melbourne, Warner said that he is working hard in his rehabilitation process.

“Hopefully I can get up and about and start running at a higher tempo,” he said. “I managed to get up to 14 kilometers an hour (8.7mph) so I’ve got to work towards a max of 26 to 30 kilometers an hour by next week. If I can run between wickets and move laterally and do some ground fielding by the end of next week, I should be ready to go. Fingers are crossed” Warner further said.

Australian have gone with Matthew Wade and Joe Burns as the two specialist openers for the first test. This happened after Will Pucovski was ruled out of the first test as well following a concussion injury.

A total of three Australian players including Pucovski, Cameron Green and Harry Conway sustained concussions during the warm-up game against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground last week.
