David Warner Is Named The Captain Of Dubai Capitals For IL20 2024

David Warner is set to captain Dubai Capitals in the upcoming International League T20 (IL20) 2024 edition, as revealed by the franchise on their X (formerly Twitter) account.

David Warner is now the captain of Dubai Capitals for the upcoming IL20 2024. He joined the team as one of the main players along with Mark Wood. Warner, who captained Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 and SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2016, is known for his strong performances as a top run-scorer.

Warner boasts an impressive T20 record, standing out as one of the prolific run-scorers in the format. With a remarkable tally of 356 T20 matches, the New South Wales player has amassed 11,695 runs, including 8 centuries, maintaining a solid average of 37.60.

Additionally, he played a crucial part in Australia’s lone T20 World Cup triumph, emerging as their top run-scorer with 289 runs. Warner will captain a squad that includes players such as Rovman Powell, Joe Root, Sam Billings, and Sadeera Samarawickrama.

Dubai Capitals concluded their 2023 campaign in the playoffs

In the first season of the competition in 2023, Dubai Capitals secured the 4th position and reached the Eliminator, winning 4 out of 10 matches. Unfortunately, their campaign concluded with an eight-wicket defeat to Mumbai Emirates.

The upcoming second edition of IL20 is scheduled to start on January 13th.

“Season 2 will be played on the same 34-match format with four playoffs including the final. The tournament schedule will be announced in due course.”

Gulf Giants, who emerged victorious in the previous season by defeating Desert Vipers in the final, are set to defend their championship. English batsman James Vince is expected to make a return to captain the Giants in the upcoming 2024 edition.
