The Sydney Thunder have officially announced David Warner as their new captain for the Big Bash League season, which begins on November 6. Following the October 25 lifting of Warner’s captaincy ban by Cricket Australia, this appointment was made.
When Australia was touring South Africa in 2018, the Sandpaper-gate affair led to Warner’s suspension as a leader. Warner, who at the time was vice captain, was punished and disqualified from captaincy. However, He is ready to take back a leadership role now that his punishment has been removed.
He helped create the Sydney Thunder, a side in the BBL, and their return to captaincy is a major step forward. Warner contributes significant experience and knowledge to the position as a foundation player. With his hiring, Warner and Sydney Thunder will embark on a new era beginning with Season 14. Fans should anticipate an interesting season with Warner leading the team.
“I was part of the team from the start”- David Warner
David Warner told the team’s official website that it feels great to have the captain’s tag next to his name. The 38-year-old stated that he is excited to share his expertise with the upcoming generation of talent.
“Captaining the Thunder again this season means a lot to me. I was part of the team from the start, and now to be back with that ‘C’ next to my name feels fantastic. I’m looking forward to leading from the front and sharing my experience with the young talent coming through,” said Warner.
“Leadership off the field is just as crucial. I want to create an environment where we can all take a break from the game, bond, and enjoy ourselves. Whether it’s over a team meal, out on the golf course, or engaging with our fans in Western Sydney, it’s all about building camaraderie and staying grounded,” Warner added.
The fourteenth season of the BBL will begin on December 15.
