David Warner’s Wicket In Super Over Is My Favourite Wicket – Lockie Ferguson

Lockie Ferguson

We had another crackling super over in this IPL as Lockie Ferguson made sure Sunrisers Hyderabad leave the stadium without winning today’s match as it was Kolkata Knight Riders who defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the third super over of the season. Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen had no answer to Lockie Ferguson today as he stumbled during the match and even in the super over this sublime bowling effort.

It all started at the toss as Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Both sides made a couple of changes as Lockie Ferguson and Kuldeep Yadav came back into the squad wheres in the Sunrisers Hyderabad setup we saw Basil Thampi and Abdul Samad coming into the side.

Batting first Kolkata Knight Riders had a decent start in the powerplay as the duo of Rahul Tripathi and Shubman Gill put up 48 runs in the powerplay before Rahul Tripathi was cleaned up by Natarajan. The innings went on as there were valuable contributions from Nitish Rana and Eoin Morgan in middle overs. In the end, Dinesh Karthik finished the innings off with a quickfire 29 off 14 deliveries taking Kolkata Knight Riders to a score of 163 at the end of 20 overs.

When Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen walked out to bat there was a surprise for all of us as it was Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson who walked out to bat instead of David Warner. Which meant the captain of the side was going to bat down the order which he hasn’t done that many times in his career. The new pair took Sunrisers Hyderabad to a brisk start but they lost too many early wickets as it was down to David Warner and Abdul Samad to finish the match off.

Kolkata Kight Riders Avenge Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Super Over

In the last over Sunrisers Hyderabad required 17 to win with a half-fit Andre Russell bowling the over. Russell started off with a no-ball to Rashid Khan which was followed by three boundaries by David Warner. It came down to the last ball where Sunrisers Hyderabad required 2 to win off the final delivery where Warner should manage just one run taking the match down to the super over.

In the Super over, Sunrisers Hyderabad batting first in the powerplay was the victim of a sublime bowling effort by Lockie Ferguson as he cleaned up both David Warner and Abdul Samad in the first three deliveries. With Rashid Khan to bowl, the super over Kolkata Knight Riders only had to chase down three in 6 deliveries which they did quite convincingly as Karthik and Morgan took their side to victory in under 4 balls.

David Warner’s wicket in the super over was my Favourite wicket: Lockie Ferguson

The man of the match of today’s game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders was Lockie Ferguson for his stunning bowling display as he picked 5 wickets in the entire match including the super over.

At the post-match presentation, Lockie Ferguson said that getting David Warner out in the super over was his favourite wicket of the night. He mentioned that he had a game plan which worked throughout the game for him.

“I think getting David Warner out especially at the start of the super over [was my favourite wicket]. It’s great having Morgs at the top off the mark with his calmness and of course I had my plan which was working throughout the game. Look we’ll take this win and enjoy tonight, it was a very good win on a tough wicket. It was nice to put the icing on the cake after the batsmen’s effort,” Lockie Ferguson said.
