Former Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta has lauded the performance of the Indian bowlers on Day 1 of the Gabba Test. The Indian bowling attack were without their regulars but still, the likes of Mohammed Siraj, T Natarajan, Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar gave a fighting performance against the Australian batsmen. Their fifth bowler Navdeep Saini did not take the field in the final session of the day’s play after feeling his groin in the first two sessions.

Mohammed Siraj dismissed David Warner to give India the early breakthrough. Then Shardul Thakur dismissed Marcus Harris with the very first delivery of his spell. Natarajan provided India with key breakthroughs with Australia well placed at 200 for 3. First, he dismissed Matthew Wade to break a 113-run stand with Marnus Labuschgane and then dismissed the centurion. Australia went from 200 for 3 to 213 for 5 courtesy the Natarajan breakthroughs.

Deep Dasgupta Praises Indian Bowlers

Talking to India Today, Deep Dasgupta praised all the bowlers and had a special mention for the left-arm pacer.

“With Natarajan, the only issue is because he is not that quick. He is a medium pacer, a little better than medium pace and he generally doesn’t swing the ball back into the left-hander that much. Becomes a little one-dimensional kind of bowler,” Deep Dasgupta told Sports Today.

He further said that Indian bowlers need to be praised for the heart shown by them despite the absence of experienced bowlers from the playing XI.

“And obviously, he doesn’t have the experience of bowling with the red-ball, which also kind of showed in his bowling. In terms of heart, you can’t question the heart the Indian bowlers have shown,” Dasgupta added.

Australia ended the day on 274 for five after Tim Paine and Cameron Green added an unbeaten 61 run-stand after the fall of two quick wickets for tea. Marnus Labuschagne hit his fifth Test ton en route to his 108.
