Former India wicket-keeper Deep Dasgupta believes India’s Ravindra Jadeja ranks in the same league as England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes. Jadeja who started as a bowling all-rounder initially transformed his batting in the recent past which has led to the upping his batting show for the Indian side, especially in the test side.
The left-arm all-rounder played a crucial role in India’s win against Australia in the 2nd test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where India quite comprehensively defeated Australia by 8 wickets. Jadeja picked up 3 wickets across 2 innings and played a vital knock of 57 runs in a very important partnership with skipper Ajinkya Rahane.

Ravindra Jadeja In the Same Bracket As Ben Stokes – Deep Dasgupta
Commending the improvement in his batting, Dasgupta said Ravindra Jadeja has performed a lot better than many frontline batsmen in the Indian side. He feels that people look at Jadeja as a bowler who can bat but he’s someone who’s contributed more than that.
“Jadeja replacing Virat Kohli in the 2nd Test was one of the things in my mind because of the way he has batted in the last couple of years. Generally, people think about Jadeja that he is a bowler who can bat, someone who hasn’t capitalised much in Test cricket,” Deep Dasgupta was quoted as saying by India Today.
“But I always thought he has actually done better than a lot of batsmen in the last couple of years. He’s getting runs across all formats, and also as recently as last year he was the world’s top-ranked Test bowler,” he added.
He further went on to add how Ravindra Jadeja ranks in the same league as Ben Stokes. During the IPL, Deep Dasgupta was sceptical about CSK batting Jadeja at four since he’s very much capable of doing the job as a pure batsman. Although Chennai bowed out of the group stages, Jadeja made a long-lasting impression with his all-round show.
“As of now the way he’s batting he definitely is (in the same bracket as Ben Stokes). Even during the IPL I actually said why not him at No. 4 for CSK. He’s got a couple of triple hundreds in domestic cricket, getting runs there is not easy,” said the former India wicket-keeper.
