Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, tomorrow will play the inaugural match of IPL 2020. CSK will once again heavily bank on medium pacer Deepak Chahar to take wickets upfront with the new ball. Chahal since his IPL debut has been an integral part of the CSK franchise.

The pacer has fully recovered after being tested COVID-19 positive and will play the opening clash of IPL 2020. Ahead of the big season, Chahal recalled an interesting incident linking him and skipper MS Dhoni.

Dhoni didn’t allow me to bowl at the death – Deepak Chahar

During an interview with Aakash Chopra, Chahar recalled how even after bowling at a decent pace, Dhoni didn’t allow him to bowl at the death overs. In the end, received an epic explanation from his captain.

“Generally you don’t give the old ball to bowlers who have the pace of 120-125 km/h but when I was playing for RPS and even for CSK I was bowling at around 140 but still he didn’t give me the ball in the death. I had asked this to Mahi Bhai. He gave me a two-word answer and then I couldn’t say much”, Chahar told Aakash Chopra on his show Aakash Vaani

“So I asked the bowling coach a couple of times, he also said I should be bowled in the death overs. Finally, I gathered some courage and asked Mahi Bhai when he was sitting in a room. He said, ‘I groom players’ and that’s it. He didn’t say anything else”, the CSK bowler said.

Meanwhile, Chahar also talked about how Dhoni leads his side during the IPL. He revealed that Dhoni likes all-round cricketers that can contribute in every department and are game-changers.

“I think Dhoni prefers those who are good in all departments. He likes those who can contribute in batting bowling and fielding. A bowler can have a bad day but he can change a match by grabbing a good catch or can win the batch with a six or a four,” Chahar said.

Furthermore, after his brilliant performance for the Rising Pune Supergiant, CSK bought Chahar ahead of IPL in 2018. In the previous edition of the IPL, the 28-year-old was the third-highest wicket-taker in the league. Chahar ended the season with 22 wickets at 21.90 and an economy of 7.90.
