The upcoming IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) is critical for both teams as it could decide their playoff fate. MI, currently with 14 points from 12 matches, needs a win to secure a top-four finish. DC, just behind with 13 points from the same number of matches, must avoid a loss to stay in the race.
However, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, warning of heavy rains over the next four days. This has raised concerns about the match being washed out, which would result in both teams receiving just one point each, making their final league games even more crucial.
Parth Jindal Requests Venue Change
Amid fears of rain disrupting the game, DC co-owner Parth Jindal wrote an email to the BCCI, requesting that the MI vs DC match be moved to another city. His concern stems from the weather forecast, which predicts heavy showers in Mumbai on the match day. Jindal referred to a recent decision where RCB’s home game against SunRisers Hyderabad was shifted from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to similar weather concerns.
“The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out,” Jindal wrote in his email. He emphasized the need for consistent decisions, stating, “Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow’s game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers.”
Rain Disrupts Practice Ahead of Match
Rain already made its presence felt in Mumbai on Tuesday evening around 8 pm. Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul had to cut short his practice session due to the showers. Mumbai Indians had completed their session earlier in the day. Heavy rain continued through the evening, with dark clouds looming over the Wankhede Stadium.
If the match is abandoned, both teams will have to rely heavily on their final league matches. MI will host PBKS on May 26, while DC will play against the same team at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 24. MI currently hold the fourth spot on the points table, followed closely by DC in fifth place.
