Delhi Capitals (DC) has finalized its player retentions for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auction, securing Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel for a total of INR 47 crore. These strategic retentions reflect a blend of experience and youth, with Axar retained at INR 16.5 crore and Kuldeep at INR 13.25 crore. Tristan Stubbs and Abishek Porel were also held for INR 10 crore and INR 4 crore, respectively.
Parth Jindal, co-owner of DC, expressed satisfaction with the retentions, emphasizing that these players represent a solid foundation for the franchise. However, he also mentioned a preference for retaining additional players, highlighting the limitations imposed by retention rules.
Pant’s Auction Return and Franchise’s Plans
Despite extensive negotiations with Rishabh Pant, DC could not reach a retention agreement with their former captain before the October 31 deadline. Consequently, Pant will enter the player pool for the November auction, opening the possibility for DC or other franchises to bid for his services.
Jindal acknowledged this setback, expressing a strong intent to reclaim some of the familiar faces through the Right-to-Match (RTM) cards. With two RTMs available, DC can selectively retain specific former players, aiming to bring back familiar talent that aligns with their game plan and culture.
Building a Balanced and Competitive Squad
Looking forward to the mega auction, Jindal outlined DC’s commitment to assembling a well-rounded team that could contend for the IPL title. With a budget of INR 73 crore and seven overseas slots open, the franchise has ample resources to invest strategically.
According to Jindal, the Capitals are focused on creating a “strong and balanced squad” to enhance their chances in the competition. He also highlighted that the franchise’s management team is working diligently to refine their auction strategy, aiming to secure key players and strengthen the squad in pursuit of their first IPL trophy.
