Gujarat Giants batter Sophia Dunkley came out all guns blazing against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 6 of the 2023 Women’s Premier League on Wednesday, March 8 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. She slammed the fastest fifty of the tournament, providing her team off to an outstanding start.

Batting first, Gujarat Giants suffered an early blow as S Meghana was dismissed for eight runs. Following her dismissal, Sophia Dunkley put together a stunning partnership with Harleen Deol. Dunkley took the attack to the opposition bowlers. In the fifth over, Sophia Dunkley slammed Preeti Bose for 28 runs. She smashed four boundaries and a six in the over.

Sophia Dunkley got to her maiden fifty of the 2023 Women’s Premier League off just 18 deliveries. She also slammed a six and a boundary on consecutive deliveries against Shreyanka Patil. However, the Gujarat Giants batter was dismissed off the very next delivery. She tried to go for a lofted shot, but couldn’t get enough and was caught in the deep for 65 runs off just 28 deliveries. Her knock witnessed eleven boundaries and three sixes.

Gujarat Giants put on 201 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2023 WPL

The Gujarat Giants batters put up a blistering show at the Brabourne Stadium against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2023 Women’s Premier League. Apart from Sophia Dunkley, Harleen Deol also played a fantastic knock. She scored 67 runs off 45 deliveries, with nine boundaries, and a six. Meanwhile, Hemalatha played a nice cameo of sixteen runs. Gujarat Giants reached 201 runs on the back of these performances.

Shreyanka Patil and Heather Knight took a couple of wickets each in the innings, while Megan Schutt and Renuka Thakur took one wicket each. The Gujarat Giants need to defend 201 runs to mark their first win of the tournament.
