The youngster from Karnataka has finally arrived and he has arrived with an absolute bang. Devdutt Padikkal has become the first Indian in IPL history to score a fifty on debut in 10 year. Sunrisers Hyderabad after winning the toss put the Kohli led the side to bat first in Dubai.
RCB’s new opening pair Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch walked out to bat with one intention and that was to take RCB off to a flying start. Well, Padikkal just did the unthinkable by taking the charge early on. Finch took the back seat, as Devdutt decided to go after the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers.
The highest run-scorer of the last season’s Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy scored a fifty on debut as he now holds a record of scoring Fifty on First-class debut, List-A debut, T20 debut, IPL debut.
Devdutt Padikkal score a fifty on IPL debut
The early start by the RCB openers ensured they cross the 50 run mark in the powerplay. After which Devdutt didn’t take much time to complete his fifty as in just 39 balls he had crossed the 50 run mark.

After RCB’s innings Devdutt was interviewed where he said that initially, it was pretty difficult to bat on. But in the end, he feels his side have put up a good total on the board.
“It was pretty difficult to bat on. We have a good total now. Looking forward to defending. It was great to get the half-century out of the way.”
The batsmen from Karnataka did have a dream start to the Indian Premier League. Notching up a distinct record on debut, he has certainly marked his arrival in style. A lot of questions were raised when Devdutt was picked over an experienced Parthiv Patel in the playing XI. But Padikkal just proved everyone why he is such a highly-rated batsman in the domestic circuit.
