IPL 2020: Dew Factor Kept Us Thinking – Stephen Fleming After Back-To-Back Defeats

Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming that the dew conditions so far in the tournament has kept them guessing which is they have not been able to pick the proper playing XI. Fleming said after CSK lost to Delhi Capitals by 44 runs in Dubai. He further said that the dew factor has also disrupted the plans they had in their first two matches.

Six out of the first seven games have been won by the team batting first in IPL 2020 so far. Thus the notion ”win the toss and field first” has come under a bit of scanner especially after how CSK have lost their matches.

“We did [consider batting first] today but what we can’t anticipate is the dew. We trained across the road the other day and it was soaking wet and it has a huge impact on the second innings. Tonight it was absolutely none so it’s a little bit of hit and miss at the moment as to what conditions are going to be like,” said Fleming.

“The last game we played in Sharjah was one of the wetter surfaces we’ve being involved in. We’re guessing a little bit around conditions” Stephen Fleming further added.

Missed Picking Right Combination: Stephen Fleming

While dew has been a concern for CSK, Stephen Fleming also added saying that picking the right team combination is another problem they have faced in their first three games.

“We’ve used that tactic in the last couple of games but Kedar Jadhav and MS… we’ve almost got too many batting options at the moment, so that’s why I say we’re a little bit muddled with what we’re sending out. So we just need to be a little bit clear with what we’re doing. And what perhaps we’re missing is a bigger contribution at the top so yeah there’s a lot of question marks” said the CSK coach.

CSK play Sunrisers Hyderabad after a six-day break on October 2 and the CSK coach and the captain is expecting to get Ambati Rayudu back in the mix which will strengthen the middle order. He suffered a hamstring injury in CSK’s tournament opener against Mumbai Indians.
