Rohit Sharma has put an end to the growing speculation surrounding his future in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Addressing the rumors, he firmly stated that he has no plans to retire from the format.
“I am not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure no rumors are spread moving forward. Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (there is no future plan, whatever is going on will continue as it is),” he clarified. His statement reassured fans and the cricketing fraternity that he intends to continue playing without any immediate plans for retirement.
Dinesh Karthik’s Take on Rohit Sharma and Other Players
Dinesh Karthik praised Rohit Sharma’s response, highlighting his ability to be both humorous and assertive.
“It pretty much sums up Rohit Sharma as a person. Very humorous about it but at the same time sending the message across: ‘Don’t be in a hurry to ask for my retirement. I’ll do it when I feel like it,’” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.
He also commended Virat Kohli for his ability to perform under pressure, stating that both Rohit and Kohli excel in big matches due to their mental strength. Additionally, Karthik expressed confidence in young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, predicting that he will perform exceptionally well when given the opportunity.
Plans for the 2027 World Cup and Uncertainty Over Test Cricket
Reports suggest that Rohit Sharma is planning to extend his career until the 2027 World Cup, which will be hosted in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. If all goes as planned, he may retire from international cricket after the tournament. To ensure peak performance, Rohit is expected to work closely with Abhishek Nayar, the assistant coach of the Indian cricket team, focusing on fitness, batting, and overall approach.
Between 2025 and the 2027 World Cup, India is scheduled to play 27 ODIs, with more matches possibly being added later. Rohit will use these games as preparation for the major event. However, his Test cricket future remains uncertain, especially after his underwhelming performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His form in the upcoming IPL will likely play a crucial role in determining whether he will be included in India’s squad for the England tour in June.
