Everyone wants to become famous. Fame is something that fascinates everyone and makes thigh everyone crave for it. However, those who have already got it hope they can go back to become nobody again.
Skipper Virat Kohli might feel so. Every little move of his is newspaper headline these days. He is in limelight again, now for his thigh pad!
Unlike the olden times, practice sessions of cricketers these days are followed closely by media and fans. In the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand, fans spotted autograph on Virat Kohli’s thigh pad and wondered whose autograph it is.
Virat Kohli has an autograph for Steve Remfry. Steve Remfry is a well-known cricket kit manufacturer operating in Adelaide who produces thigh guard, chest guard, shin guard. He has been in the game for 30 years now and legend cricketers like Shane Warne, Graham Gooch, Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar have used Remfry’s products. A lot of international cricketers including Indians and Australians use his products.
In 2014 after the tragic death of Phil Hughes, Remfry came up with a modified design of helmets that would provide a padded helmet flap of 13mm made of foam around the neck that would prevent cricketers from suffering fatal blows to the neck.
“There’s a solution. There’s always a solution. Every part of the body can be protected somehow. With the helmet, I’ve come up with a solution that I think can fix that problem.” He had said back then.
India now plays Sri Lanka in 3 tests, 3 ODIs and 3T20Is in a series starting on November 16. After that in January, they tour South Africa in perhaps their toughest cricketing assignment in 2 years. Kohli who has been playing non-stop cricket off late is expected to get some rest in limited overs series against Sri Lanka to keep himself fresh for South Africa tour.
2017 has been a very successful year for Kohli with the bat. This year he has scored 1406 runs in ODIs at an average of 76 with 6 hundreds.
