Domestic Cricket Will Only Happen Once Travelling Is Safe – Sourav Ganguly

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has declared that young India players will not be exposed until travelling is safe. The domestic Indian season of 2020-21 would have commenced by now. Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy were scheduled to begin from late August this year.

Due to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, the future of India’s domestic season is looking very bleak. Ganguly recently stated that the safety of the players will always be prioritised keeping the current situations in mind.

Not sure on the future of domestic cricket – Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly added that domestic cricket will only start when it will be secure to travel in all parts of India. Domestic cricket much like the IPL includes hectic travelling schedule for all the players.

Ganguly does not want to risk the health of any young player as the COVID-19 cases in India are increasing. He also highlighted that even though the domestic season is important but as of now it is not the right time.

“Domestic cricket is necessary, but it will happen only after coronavirus. When it is safe, only then, especially junior cricket. We don’t want to expose young players.

Our country is so large and our domestic cricket is so robust that everyone has to travel and play. So till the time it is safe, it will not happen,” said Ganguly during a live Instagram chat with ‘Sports Tak’.

All cricketing activities in India as of now have been postponed including various age-group tournaments. India has so far recorded 7,67,296 Covid-19 positive cases whereas the total death count of the country has reached 21,129 as per the Union health ministry.
