Chennai Super Kings head coach and former New Zealand player Stephen Fleming has revealed the actual reason behind not giving Rajvardhan Hangargekar a chance in this year’s IPL.
Rajvardhan Hangargekar was one of the brightest sparks at this year’s Under-19 World Cup and was a crucial part in his team’s run to the championship. He is a bowling all-rounder who can do wonders with the old ball and can swing the ball out of the park with his bat. He is known for breaking partnerships at crucial stages of the game.
Chennai Super Kings are having a below average campaign up till now and would be hoping to win all the games from here on in, if they want to qualify for the playoffs for the 12th time in IPL history.
Stephen Fleming commented on Hangarkekar’s absence from the starting XI. He said : “You have to be very careful. I know he’s (Rajvardhan) performed at the Under-19 level but this is a step up. We’re very conscious of the skills that he needs to perform. We don’t wanna just throw him in and damage him. We want to make sure we realise the potential that he’s got.”
Rajvardhan Hangargekar- one for the future
Hangargekar was thought to be an obvious choice by pundits when Deepak Chahar was adjudged injured for the start of the tournament. He has the same skill set like Deepak Chahar and can swing the ball to trouble the batsman early in the start of their innings.
Even though, Hangargekar has a bright future ahead, he needs to be given his time and space in order to get the best out of him, which Chennai Super Kings are famous for. He and Deepak Chahar can be the two opening bowlers for Chennai maybe by the time the next season starts. Both of them can provide incredible and match changing contributions with the bat.
