After the highs of the Lord’s Test, India wre depleated in the first innings of the Headingley Test. James Anderson started a slide as the other England bowlers conjugated to bowl India out for 78. This was also the first time Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat. Despite good batting conditions, it was the England bowlers who grasped the advantage with both hands.
India lost a wicket in the very first over that of KL Rahul for a duck. Cheteshwar Pujara (1), Virat Kohli (7) both fell in the first hour of play. The veteran pacer set up the dismissals of Kohli and Pujara just as he did right throughout the series. Ajinkya Rahane (18) and partcuparly Rohit Sharma’s wicket (19) started the slide in the second session.
India lost four wickets on the score of 67 including that of Rohit, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. Curran and Robinson and Overton joined later after the slide was started by the veteran Anderson. Between 6.59 pm to 7.10 pm IST, India lost those four wickets to put England on top in the Test match.
Mohammed Siraj’s wicket by Overton with India on 78, ended the misery as India registered one of their lowest total against England in Test cricket in the country.
Meanwhile, the Twitterverse witnessed the Indian batting collapse and could not restrict them from expressing how they felt. Here are some of the best tweets about the Indian innings.
India Slumber From The Highs Of Lord’s To The Lows Of Headingley

After dream finish at Lord’s, nightmarish first innings at Leeds for India. Bowled out in 40.4 overs in an utterly inept showing against swing and seam. England’s bowling was top class, but India’s much vaunted batting was abysmal. Surreal collapse

England have used the conditions very skilfully. It is a long way back from here

England have done what India did post that 36 all out in Adelaide. And India seem all too consumed with that ‘show of aggression’. Such an abject surrender #IndvsEng #Headingley

78 is now India's 9th lowest total in Test cricket.
And their third lowest in England.#EngvInd #EngvsInd#IndvEng #IndvsEng— Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) August 25, 2021
Hot take: India actually batted better during the 36 all out than they did today in that they just got out to terrific bowling there. Here, the batting was quite abysmal.

Teams in past have won Test matches after being bowled out for less than 78. Can India do it? #INDvENG #IndvsEng

Right up there with the worst batting I have seen from India. Pathetic.

Extras (16) have been India's 3rd highest scorer today after Rohit (19) & Rahane (18).

And then, they gave away all their wickets in quick succession within an hour and on the money, wasn't it? And it felt like, I haven't felt like this ever in my career. I felt India were trying to deny me a fifer
