Rain played spoilsport on the second successive day at Trent Bridge as play had to be called off early. After dismissing India for 278, England openers added 25 before rain played spoilsport, this time forcing the umpires to end the day’s play. Rain prevented the progress of the day’s play right at the start and came back to disrupt the flow again in the final session. More about the day’s report in detail below.

Team India reached 278 after starting the day on 125/4. KL Rahul scored a valiant 84 with Ravindra Jadeja scoring yet another Test fifty. In the process, he justified his selection over Ravichandran Ashwin in the Test match. He also added 60 runs with KL Rahul helping India to go past England’s total.

After Jadeja was dismissed, the Indian tailenders added 46 with Jasprit Bumrah scoring 28 and Mohammed Shami 13. Shardul Thakur was James Anderson’s 621st Test victim bringing taking him past Ail Kumble. The veteran England pacer is now the pacer with most Test wickets to his name and third on the all-time list.

Robinson, Anderson Gives England Hope

Ollie Robinson produced a brilliant bowling display ending with 5/85 bagging his maiden Test fifer. Anderson finished with 4/54 dismissing the cream of the Indian batting line-up.

Ravindra Jadeja getting runs in the lower-middle order will come as a blessing in disguse after the likes of Pujara, Kohli and Rahane fell in quick succession. India were in deep trouble at that point but Rahul, Jadeja and the lower order did well to give India 95-run lead at the end.

There is still plenty of cricket left in the Test match with two days of cricket still left. There is enough time for an outcome in the game with the match well and truly poised for a good finish.

Brief scores:

England 25/0, trail India 278 (Kl Rahul 86, Ravindra Jadeja 56; Ollie Robinson 5-85, James Anderson 4-54, by 70 runs.
