ENG vs IND 2021: England Pacer Stuart Broad Suffers Injury Scare Ahead Of 2nd Test

Stuart Broad

Veteran England fast bowler Stuart Broad has tweaked his right calf in today’s warm-up at Lord’s which has put his participation in the 2nd Test against India in jeopardy. The second tie is scheduled to commence on August 12 (Thursday).

He was unable to train this afternoon with the rest of the England squad. Stuart Broad will now have a scan tomorrow to determine the extent of his injury.

The 35-year-old Stuart Broad had a horrid outing in the first Test returning with figures of 0/70 and 1/18 in the first and second innings respectively. If Broad fails to recover on time for the 2nd Test, Mark Wood is likely to replace him in the playing XI.

England have recalled all-rounder Moeen Ali for the 2nd Test against India, starting from August 12 (Thursday) at Lord’s in London. Incidentally, the hosts were unable to find a place for a frontline spinner in the team that drew the first Test.

The call-up means that Moeen Ali is set to play his first Test on home soil since the 2019 Ashes, when he featured in England’s defeat in the series opener at Edgbaston. England head coach Chris Silverwood has said that all-rounder Moeen Ali is “certainly” under consideration for the second Test against India.

“Moeen is certainly under consideration. He’s always been part of our consideration. So that’s something that Joe and I are going to chat about at Lord’s,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Silverwood as saying.

“We know he is a fine cricketer and we know he is showing fine form in the Hundred at the moment, though I appreciate it’s a different format,” he added.

The five-match Test series between India and England are currently tied at 0-0 after rain played spoilsport in the series opener.
