Virat Kohli-led India went against Joe Root’s England in a thrilling 1st Test encounter. Fans witnessed the high voltage clash between the top two sides in the world. Also still there are many more days remaining as the marquee series contains 5-match Test games. Meanwhile, former England cricketer Nasser Hussain feels like England has more chances of winning the series against India.
During a Question & Answer session with fans on The Cricketer, Nasser was asked to give his opinions on the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England. Former England captain talked about both the teams and asserted:
“Many think India are favorites – despite them losing to New Zealand at Southampton – but I think it will be a lot tighter than people think. England’s series record at home is fantastic.”

Nasser Hussain discussed England’s pace battery and said they have ‘infinite seam-bowling resources’. Notably, England’s pace battery is filled with big names like Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Chris Woakes, Ollie Robinson, and Saqib Mahmood. Also, this fast bowling unit will be a nightmare for any opposition, especially in English conditions.
Hussain also mentioned that although the English batting line-up has come under scanner still Root, Buttler and Pope are doing good.
“They seem to have infinite seam-bowling resources – Stuart Broad, Jimmy Anderson, Chris Woakes, Ollie Robinson, Saqib Mahmood; and although techniques at the top of the order have been questioned, those of Joe Root, Stokes, Jos Buttler, and Ollie Pope are sound,” Nasser Hussain added.

“India have a few selection issues” – Nasser Hussain
Former England captain Nasser Hussain also pinpointed some selection issues that Team India could face.
“India have a few selection issues. Shubman Gill is out of the series. Can they afford to play both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja? And how impactful will Rishabh Pant be at No.6 if the ball is moving about? So I’d have England as the favorites,” Nasser Hussain said.
