Rohit Sharma fell early in the second innings of the Lord’s Test for 21 runs. The mode of his dismissal was identical to how he was dismissed in the first Test. He fell to the sort pitch delivery after England set the perfect trap for Rohit to play the shot. In the presser at Nottingham, Rohit spoke about the pull being his favourite shot and that he will commit to it if the ball is there to be played. At Lord’s he was dismissed in the same fashion which now leaves a lot to be desired of his stroke-making.
Meanwhile, VVS Laxman while talking to ESPN Cricinfo, dissected the dismissal of Rohit Sharma. He spoke about how despite seeing the trap set for him, he fell for the trap and ultimately lost his wicket.

“Rohit Sharma has let himself down. We have seen him get out in that fashion in the first Test in Nottingham as well. Sometimes your favourite stroke can lead to your downfall. In the very same over, he got a beautiful six over fine leg. When the opposition captain makes a change, it is very clear that it is their line of attack and they want Rohit Sharma to play (a particular shot). It was a trap for Rohit Sharma and he unfortunately fell into that. He is a much more experienced player than what he saw with that shot selection.”
Rohit Sharma Needed To Carry On: VVS Laxman
Laxman further said that Rohit needed to carry on after the early dismissal of KL Rahul after he looked set. However, Rohit in going for glory fell to a shot which is his strength in international cricket.
“After Rahul got out, it was very important for Rohit Sharma to carry on. The way he was batting, there were some beautiful drives. He was timing the ball really well. Rohit Sharma needed to carry on his good form. Very disappointed with that shot selection from Rohit Sharma.”
India at the moment have gone into the tea break with a lead of 78. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are batting in their 20s.
