ENG vs IND 2021: Wasim Jaffer Takes A Cheeky Dig At England After Rain Spoils Game Time

Wasim Jaffer

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer took a sly dig at England after rain played spoilsport on day 2 of the first Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The visitors were at 125/4 after a mini-collapse led by James Anderson.

Meanwhile, in reply to England’s 183 in the first innings, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul got India off to a flying start. They added 97 runs for the first wicket to stage the platform before a rash shot from Rohit produced the first wicket for the home side just at the stroke of lunch.

The dismissal of Rohit led to a mini-collapse as James Anderson send Cheteshwar Pujara and skipper Virat Kohli in back-to-back deliveries before a brilliant piece of fielding from Jonny Bairstow caught Ajinkya Rahane short of his crease. In no time, India were at 112/4 from 97/0 before bad light stopped play which eventually turned into a heavy shower.

Taking to his Twitter account following the halt in play, Wasim Jaffer shared a light-hearted post regarding the weather in the UK and England fans. He wrote:

“Being England fan must be tricky. You need cloud cover but not too much.”

KL Rahul leads the charge for India

The Karnataka-born opener, who came into the playing XI at the cost of Mayank Agarwal, grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He scored a fine half-century to keep India in the reckoning.

KL Rahul (57*) and Rishabh Pant (7*) will have to stage a big partnership if India have to secure a big first-innings total to put England under pressure considering that chasing in the fourth innings will be a tough job.

India are currently at 125/4, still trailing by 58 runs.
