Indian skipper Virat Kohli wasted his review very early on day four of the first Test in Nottingham. Two of those reviews were taken during Mohammed Siraj‘s spell and once when Ravindra Jadeja struck Joe Root on the pads outside the off stump. India were finally able to dismiss England for 303 in the second innings as Joe Root scored his 21st Test ton.

Meanwhile, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan during an interaction with Cricbuzz analysed what went wrong with Kohli’s DRS calls. He first spoke about the use of a DRS call in the game of cricket in modern times.

” The purpose of DRS was to remove errors committed by the on-field umpires while giving decisions on the field” said Khan.

He further went onto say to speak about the role the wicketkeeper needs to play in order to get a successful review. He said that Rishabh Pant needs to have a greater say than Kohli during these times.

” Pant should hav a bigger role to play for India during DRS calls. He should be the first person to know if the DRS call needs to be taken and only then should he go forward and speak about it to Virat Kohli. “

As per recent stats, only 4 of 27 DRS calls by India have been upheld since the start of 2021. Three of them were ‘Umpire’s Call” while 21 of them struck down the leg side.

Zaheer Khan concluded by saying that the trio of the bowler, keeper and captain needs to be on the same page for India to obtain a successful review.

“Virat Kohli, the keeper and the bowler should be on the same page for India to have a successful review only then can the numbers get better” Khan pointed out.
