In a nail-biting finish at Lord’s, England secured a 22-run win over India to take a 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match Test series. Chasing a modest target of 193, India fell short as they were bowled out for 170 on the final day.

Ravindra Jadeja emerged as India’s lone warrior with a resolute unbeaten 61, but England’s bowlers, especially Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes, proved to be the difference-makers. Archer returned with figures of 3/55, while Stokes also claimed three wickets for 48 runs, showing remarkable control and intensity under pressure. Despite a late fightback, the Indian lower order couldn’t push their side over the line.

India began Day 5 at a precarious 58/4 and lost their grip early in the session. The first blow came quickly as Rishabh Pant was bowled by Jofra Archer in the third over of the day. Just three overs later, KL Rahul, who looked relatively settled with his overnight score of 39, was dismissed LBW by Ben Stokes, adding to India’s troubles.

The middle-order collapse continued with Washington Sundar falling cheaply, leaving India reeling at 82/7 and still 111 runs away from their target. England’s bowlers showed discipline and aggression, maintaining relentless pressure through tight lines and intelligent field placements. Their consistency paid off as the Indian batters struggled to stitch together meaningful partnerships.

Jadeja’s Lone Resistance Falls Short

Ravindra Jadeja stood firm amidst the collapse, showcasing incredible grit and patience in a tough situation. He found brief support from young debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy, who added 30 runs in a cautious partnership that spanned 91 balls. However, once Nitish was dismissed, England regained control of the match.

Jadeja did not give up, farming the strike and adding crucial runs alongside tail-enders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. His 61\ came off 181 balls, marked by clever stroke play, excellent judgment, and sheer resilience. But the target proved just beyond reach as wickets continued to tumble at the other end. With no solid support, Jadeja ran out of partners, and India were bowled out for 170, falling short by 22 runs. England’s win at Lord’s has now given them crucial momentum and an advantage heading into the fourth Test.
