On the second day of the first Test between India and England at Headingley, Jasprit Bumrah was seen in an intense discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir. This moment came during the 40th over of England’s innings when Bumrah, having finished his spell, returned to the dressing room.
The animated nature of the conversation, which occurred as Shardul Thakur was bowling, quickly caught the attention of viewers and circulated widely on social media. Bumrah had been India’s only successful bowler that day, taking all three of England’s wickets, while the rest of the bowling attack looked ineffective. His visible frustration was likely due to the lack of support from the other bowlers as England steadily rebuilt their innings.

India’s Strong Start Ends in Collapse
Earlier in the match, India looked poised to dominate. Shubman Gill played a sensational knock of 147, and Rishabh Pant added to the excitement with a powerful 134, marking his seventh Test century. Their efforts propelled India to a commanding position. However, the Indian team lost momentum quickly after Gill’s dismissal.
The last seven wickets fell for just 41 runs, and India was bowled out for 471 in 113 overs. This collapse was unexpected, especially after such a solid top-order performance, and it gave England a chance to regroup. Rain delayed the start of the English innings, but once play resumed, Bumrah made an immediate impact, troubling the batters with pace and accuracy.
Pope Anchors England’s Comeback
England responded to the pressure with determination. Ollie Pope, one of their key batters, played a brilliant knock, scoring an unbeaten century—his ninth in Test cricket. He shared a 122-run partnership with Ben Duckett, who made a valuable 62 before chopping a delivery from Bumrah onto his stumps. Pope was dropped on 60 by Yashasvi Jaiswal, which turned out to be a costly miss.
He went on to complete his hundred in 125 balls, hitting 13 fours. Bumrah continued to shine, dismissing Joe Root for the tenth time in Tests and earlier getting Harry Brook out, only for it to be called a no-ball. By stumps, England reached 209/3 in 49 overs, trailing by 262 runs. While Pope’s innings gave England a much-needed boost, India relied almost entirely on Bumrah’s brilliance to stay competitive.
