Jasprit Bumrah, an Indian fast bowler, claimed that the dismissal of Harry Brook after scoring 99 was due to fate in a dramatic first Test. Brook was in a blistering batting show, hitting Prasidh Krishna for six and even putting Bumrah through the covers with a four. But on the verge of his ninth century, when he was appearing in his 26th Test, Brook edged Krishna to Shardul Thakur in the deep.

During his innings, Brook was a lucky man. On Saturday, he was caught off a miscued hook against Bumrah, but again, technology came to his rescue with the action shown to be a no-ball, and he escaped a duck. Brook also had two chances, one dropped on 46 off Ravindra Jadeja when he sliced a thin edge that was popped by Rishabh Pant, and later 82 when he clipped two-handed at the fourth slip off Bumrah. Brooks’ dismissal made the match even more fascinating, despite his pompous batting.

“He got dropped a few times”—Jasprit Bumrah on Harry Brook

In an already thrilling first Test, India’s Jasprit Bumrah implied that “fate” had contributed to England batsman Harry Brook’s dismissal for 99 on his home field of Headingley on Sunday.

“I think fate had decided 99 for him. Not to take any credit from him, he played really well. He plays an aggressive style of cricket, but he can play an aggressive shot and sometimes he can shut up shop as well and try to negate if someone is bowling a good spell. You have to be really accurate and really clear in your plans here because if you are a little wayward, run-scoring becomes very quick. So full credit to him, he played really well. We’ll try to hopefully have better plans and try to negate his plans in the next innings.”

“I can’t control what people write”- Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah revealed during the press conference that he doesn’t pay much heed to the headlines and that they are merely there to attract attention. According to his beliefs and the way he handles every scenario on the field, he even stated that he wanted to play for India.

“I can’t control what people write. Nor am I trying to teach people what to write and what not to write about me. Everybody is free to write what they want. I understand cricket is very popular in our country, and I understand that using my name in the headline boosts the viewership. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter to me. Because if I let it get into my head, I will start believing it. I need my beliefs and my ways to dictate how I go. Not the way others want me to play,” said Bumrah.

In the first Test match against England, Jasprit Bumrah showed remarkable form; he took a fifer and placed all of the burden on England’s batting on his own.
