Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the fifth rescheduled Test match against England starting from July 1 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. He tested positive for the covid-19 virus and is under isolation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has called up opener Mayank Agarwal as a stand-by for Rohit Sharma ahead of the Edgbaston Test match.
On Saturday, the Indian players underwent a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), in which Rohit Sharma’s test came positive. As a result, he had to be isolated from the rest of the team. The Indian skipper did not come out to bat in the second innings of the four-day warm-up match. He is currently under the care of the BCCI Medical team. However, his participation in the fifth Test is in jeopardy.
Mayank Agarwal will to England on Monday and join the Indian camp in the evening, stated the Espncricinfo. Notably, he will not have to undergo quarantine, as per the latest government rules. This makes him available immediately to play the fifth Test, if Rohit Sharma does, not recover in time.

Mayank Agarwal was originally not included in the Indian squad for the fifth Test match. However, KL Rahul’s injury and uncertainty over Rohit Sharma’s availability, have opened a door for Mayank. He last played for India against Sri Lanka earlier this year. In two matches, the opener could only manage 59 runs at an average of 19.66.
India’s warm-up match against Leicestershire ends in a draw
The four-day warm-up match between India and Leicestershire ended in a draw on Sunday at the Grace Road in Leicester. Team India fared decently well in the match. KS Bharat slammed a 70 in the first innings and followed it up with a 43 in the second.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant who was playing for the Leicestershire in the match scored 76 runs in the first innings. The bowling unit too made the most of the opportunity and did well in both the innings of the match. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja picked three-wicket hauls in the first innings, for India. Navdeep Saini, who was playing for Leicestershire also took a three-wicket haul in the game.
