The England Cricket Team has been given a major boost as Jofra Archer would return to the squad for three-match ODI series against South Africa starting on January 27. England left the tour of South Africa after playing three T20Is as the tour was called off due to the COVID outbreak.

The defending champions England have already qualified for the 50 Over World Cup to be played in 2023. Jofra Archer played his last ODI match on 16 September 2020. He has been struggling with injuries and made a comeback into the squad.

Archer has played only 17 ODI matches with 30 wickets at an economy of 4.74 runs per over. He missed major tournaments including ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and T20 World Cup 2022 played in Australia. He would be hoping to make a return to playing XI as England announced a strong squad for the 3-match ODI series.

Jason Roy has been retained after a disappointing ODI series against Australia. Ben Duckett who had an impressive T20I and Test series on Pakistani soil, would make his ODI comeback since 2016.

I’d rather take these last few months very seriously, more serious than probably all the rehab,” he said. “Because once this phase goes right, then it can set me up for the next three to four years injury-free. That’s the goal right now.”

Upcoming series between England and South Africa part of ICC ODI Super League

The three matches are a part of the ICC ODI Super League tournament.  The pace bowling department includes Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Olly Stone, and Jofra Archer. Jos Buttler will lead the side as they would look to iron out their flaws ahead of the 2023 World Cup.

Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali would comprise the spinners. It promises to be an exciting series as the first two ODI matches will be played on the 27 and 29 January 2023 while the third ODI would end on the 1 February.

England ODI squad to face South Africa: Ben Duckett, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Dawid Malan, Harry Brooks, Jos Buttler (C), Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Olly Stone, Reece Topley, Chris Woakes, David Willey.
