After a seven-wicket defeat in Kolkata, England’s Harry Brook emphasized the importance of applying continuous pressure on India to level the series. India leads the five-match T20I series 1-0 following their dominant victory at Eden Gardens. Speaking ahead of the second T20I in Chennai, Brook acknowledged India’s strong performance.
“We’re pretty relaxed. India is an excellent side, and we expected a tough challenge. They played an exceptional game,” Brook said.
He stressed that England needs to stick to their aggressive approach under head coach Brendon McCullum’s guidance.
“The message remains the same—we need to put pressure on their bowlers and aim to take wickets throughout their innings. To win here, you need to go above and beyond,” he added.
Learning from Jos Buttler’s Performance
Brook expressed admiration for captain Jos Buttler’s impressive 44-ball 68 in the previous game, describing it as a standout performance.
“He’s incredibly experienced in Indian conditions, having performed exceptionally well in the IPL and for England here. Watching him bat is always a learning experience,” Brook remarked.
Brook also noted the value of observing Buttler’s gameplay, saying it was a pleasure to watch his skipper execute his plans on the field. Drawing inspiration from Buttler’s innings, Brook aims to replicate such impactful contributions in the remaining games.
Focus on Match-Winning Contributions
Brook is determined to make a more significant impact in the second T20I at Chepauk. Reflecting on the previous match, he admitted it wasn’t the ideal start for him but remains focused on contributing to England’s success.
“My goal is to be a match-winner. If I can help the team win one or two games in this series, I’ll be very satisfied,” he said.
Brook’s intent is clear: play aggressively and play to win. As England prepares for the crucial encounter, Brook hopes his efforts will help the team bounce back and level the series against a formidable Indian side.
