England Name Playing XI For First Test Against India, Include Three Spinners

England

The England cricket team announced the playing XI for the first of the five-match test series against India, which kicks off on Thursday, January 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. They have included three spinners in the team, considering the spin-friendly Indian conditions.

England has named a spin-heavy bowling attack for the first Test match in a press release. Mark Wood is the lone pacer in the playing XI for the first Test match. Meanwhile, Jack Leach, Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed will comprise the spin department for the visitors.  Meanwhile, Tom Hartley will be making his Test debut in the match. He has taken 40 first-class wickets in 20 matches and has scored 522 runs.
Meanwhile, England did not have the services of young Shoaib Bashir, who had to return to the UK due to the visa delay. The other bowling option for them is Joe Root, who is a handy off-spinner. Skipper Ben Stokes confirmed that he will not bowl in the first Test match. He recently had surgery on his left knee and is still not up to bowling fitness.

No James Anderson in the first Test against India

The England cricket team has left out veteran pacer James Anderson from the playing XI for the first Test against India. He is on his sixth tour of India, but couldn’t make it to the XI for the first match. He did not have a great Ashes 2023 series, which might have gone against him. Meanwhile, Ben Foakes is expected to take up the wicket-keeping role for England. Johnny Bairstow is another wicket-keeping option in the playing XI.

England’s playing XI for the first Test: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (Captain), Ben Foakes, Rehan Ahmed, Mark Wood, Tom Hartley, Jack Leach
